Ovechkin scored 5 goals, 5 assists and was a +5 against the Canadiens in 7 games, before bowing out in Game 7 at home in a tight one-goal game. The Caps blew a 3-1 series lead. As a result, notable national media members called Ovechkin a choke artist (Wilbon, on PTI).
Crosby scored 1 goal, 4 assists and was a -1 against the Canadiens in 7 games, before bowing out in Game 7 at home while being dominated 5-2, in which he took an awful penalty early allowing Montreal to open the scoring with a PP goal. The Pens blew a 3-2 series lead. Notable national media members have yet to weigh in. So allow me to fill in the gap.
If Ovechkin's performance makes him a choke artist, and Crosby's performance was marginal - nay, fractional - by comparison, and against the same Canadiens team playing WITHOUT THEIR 4 BEST DEFENSEMEN, doesn't that make Crosby a CHOKE PICASSO!?!? You know my answer.
Sidney Crosby: Choke Picasso. Seen with two of his lesser-known works: Malkin and Fleury.
UPDATE: Since the point of this post is being horribly misconstrued, I'll state it explicitly: it's absurd to pin team successes and failures on one player, isn't it? You can't give Crosby the credit for winning a Cup and a Gold in order to deride Ovechkin for choking, unless you're also willing to blame Crosby entirely for the Pens losing. There is a logical fluidity here that the anonymous fly-by Pens fans are having trouble with in the comments. Consider yourself learned.

Couldn't have said it better. I'll be waiting for the national media to catch up with this observation, but I don't think they could ever admit it.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't even mention the Stanley Cup final game 7 last year where he literally didn't play half the game because of a 'groin' (aka vagina) injury and was nonexistant in the half he supposedly did play.
ReplyDeleteHe also didn't exactly lead the Pens over the Caps in game 7 last year, scoring the what, 6th goal?
Another point is that this Pens team looks like more of a fluke champion last year after my Stanley Cup success analysis a few weeks ago. Not that it is much consolation.
Its not that he didnt show up, he showed up but showed us that he isnt that good. This series exposed the limit of cindy prissy pussy crosby's skills, he faced the same defense as Ovechkin, except less then that, since Gill and Markov went down.
ReplyDeleteCrosby cried, squirmed and threw tantrums all series, in the end his 1 goal in 7 games and the half dozen give aways he had today says everything you need to know about him.
Ignoring crosby's worthlessness, how can anyone in their right mind flame Ovechkin for his performance? He had 6g(one taken away unjustly) 5a and +5, the pace he was scoring at would put him at 70g 58a 128points & +58 over an 82 game season.
@MC: Actually, he was the best player on the ice in Game 7 last year, scoring the crucial 1st goal and then the 6th goal. But that's neither here nor there. He was pretty bad last night.
ReplyDeleteAnd Malkin...let's just say he channeled his inner Semin.
It's a fine day.
And let's not forget the 2010 Olympics CAN V USA ... Crosby couldnt find the net ! but decides to come to play at the very end and score the winning goal ...and that made him a hero ! in my eyes he's a part time player with a cry baby Lindros attitude
ReplyDeleteDisagree. Crosby's a superstar and I really couldn't tell if he or Ovie is better at this point. It's a tossup to me.
ReplyDeleteBut I just don't understand the general delusional view that Crosby is more clutch than Ovechkin when that is clearly not the case. When facing elimination in their careers:
Crosby 2-4-6, -1 (7 gms, 3W, 4L)
Ovechkin 6-5-11, +6 (9 gms, 5W, 4L)
I love it when non hockey markets bitch about their respective overrated stars.
ReplyDeleteCall me when your rinks are sold out for away games.
Hab Fan. You know the team that plays as a TEAM.
Hey,
ReplyDeleteHow are you guys enjoying that Cup Ovechkin brought you? Enjoy your moral victories. The biggest "choke" job is winning the presidents trophy and getting canned in the 1st round. Enjoy your sports teams DC, your Bullets, Nats, and Ovechkin all need new "clutch" jobs you losers. LMAO!!!!!!!!!
Posting as anonymous is a coward's way out.
ReplyDeletea great player like ovi will eventually bring home a cup. All of the greats have done and he is no doubt one of the greats. Maybe not next year or the year after, but within his career, he has the talent to hoist the cup.
ReplyDeleteGretzky and Edmonton got knocked out in the first round after being the regular season champ. Then they won 4 cups. We'll be back.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Mike Milbury will be revising his views on Crosby too. Or not.
Whatever. Crosby has a Cup, two finals and an Olympic gold. If Ovechkin wants to tilt the debate his way, he needs to lead the Capitals to a Cup or two. Everything else is BS.
ReplyDelete"You didn't even mention the Stanley Cup final game 7 last year where he literally didn't play half the game because of a 'groin' (aka vagina) injury and was nonexistant in the half he supposedly did play."
ReplyDelete-clueless Caps fan
Next time, watch the game, dumbass. He was hit and his knee was crunched between a Wing and the boards at full speed. he came back the next period and played one shift, decided he was a liability to his team that had the lead at that point.. and benched himself. Because he had a TEAM to count on, not like a certain left-winger who seems to be the Caps one-trick pony time after time after time..
.. wow, and I thought Semin and Green were
the dazed idiots.
"a great player like ovi will eventually bring home a cup. All of the greats have done and he is no doubt one of the greats. Maybe not next year or the year after, but within his career, he has the talent to hoist the cup."
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA tell him to go to Colorado like Borqu-ee boy did. Cuz he's only Rockin' The Green (FORE!!) in Washington.
I have never seen those PIcasso's before.
ReplyDeleteI like these "Anonymous" comments from the haters out there. Big man to say some bull made up crapola and not even have the bullocks to put a name down. You all probably live in the DC area. If you're so proud of your sorry piece of poo team you root for, why don't you move back to your lame no-job havin' town? Ummm-kaaay jerky?
ReplyDeleteyou just have to love all these anonymous crosby haters..crosby had the fucking balls to do a post game interview unlike the bitch from washington who scurried off the ice after another game 7 choke with a no comment....
ReplyDeleteand another thing pittsburgh didnt lose the series after bein up 3-1 like the caps did..so what has ovi done for you? oh he got you your presidents trophy parade down pennsylvania avenue LOL...but seriously this debate over whos better is really not that important as both players are superstars that play a different style.. im a pens fan but what i wouldnt give to see crosby and ovie as team mates...they would tear the league up
ReplyDelete"but seriously this debate over whos better is really not that important as both players are superstars that play a different style.."
ReplyDeleteValid. Finally.
I think it's the reaction to one vice the other that's the issue. What has always bothered me is the idea that Crosby is somehow this unstoppable force but he isn't. He's like every other player and can be slowed, stopped, tired, hurt, blah blah blah. That's all.
ReplyDeleteD.C. sports fans have no ground to stand on. Your teams suck, your city suck, your athletes suck, and you the fans suck at life.
ReplyDelete"D.C. sports fans have no ground to stand on."
ReplyDeleteThe ground we are standing on is the contrast between one player's performance and another's, against the same opponent. If one performed admirably and lost and you call him a choker, then the other performed terribly and lost, what do you call that? Since you have firm ground to stand on, I'd like to hear your answer.
i am a huge penguins fan and completely despise ovechkin and his one dimensional game, but i completely agree with this post. granted the caps and pens both failed miserably on a grand scale, both teams losing can only be called a team effort.
ReplyDeletesteelr66
i actually posted above, but did so as anonymous by accident.
ReplyDeleteare you people kidding? ovi is great, but he's no Crosby. he leads the league in scoring because he shoots so much, although he didnt have more goals than Crosby this year. ovi's a great, one dimesional player, but last time i checked this is a team game. sounds to me like sour grapes. sounds like you're an ovi fan, and can't seem to win ANYTHING... no cup, no medal at the games, no nothing... hmmm...
ReplyDeletei'm going to expand on that... no superbowl since dilfer, no cup, your baseball team's as bad as ours, so whatever on that, and you gave Arenas all the money, and he layed down... sour grapes, or soar loser...
ReplyDeleteWho in the he11 is Red Dover and why in the he11 should anyone care what he thinks of Crosby, OV, or anyone else?
ReplyDeletethis Red Dover rea11y grinds my gears ;)
ReplyDelete-the above commenter is a faggot
Well folks, argue all you like but check the top players on any team and I would bet that 90% of them are BORN AND BRED GOOD CANADIAN BOYS !!
ReplyDeleteThe original six Hockey Teams were the very best but the number of teams today are lazy and only looking for the dollarThey are going to have to learn to play as a team like the originals.
Pens fan...YES... CANADIAN YES !!!!!!!!!!!
